Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women.
On May 19,1951, a group of 19 educated, black women in the Delta Omega Omega Graduate Chapter brought the same mission and goals to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and chartered Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated., the Alpha Rho Chapter.
Sisterhood is many things. It's a warm smile on a cold and rainy day, a friendly hug, a cheerful hello... it's all that a good and lasting friendship is, only better. It's treasured. It's sacred. It's knowing that their will always be someone there for you. It's a dream shared, and goals achieved. It's counting on others and being counted on.
It's real.
